Welcome to Derby

Derby lies just to the West of Nottingham and whilst smaller with a population of 250,000, is an incredibly vibrant, friendly city with a young feel and huge history in innovation. The City is home to engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce and Bombardier Transportation, along with Toyota's UK headquarters and manufacturing base south west of the city at Burnaston.

Derby is home to two of the most influential women in the world. Florence Nightingale and Lara Croft, both of whom were “born” in Derby. Harry Stephens, who moved Derby to the USA in the 1800’s is famously credited with inventing both the paper drinking straw and the American staple, the hot dog!

Situated on the banks of the River Derwent that flows through it, it’s got exceptional transport links and access to the beautiful, rugged Peak District, just to the north of the city.
